Chat Forensics

Chat analysis

Understand what your conversations reveal.

Upload an export and get a plain-English report (timeline, patterns and risks) that quotes the messages behind its findings. Names in the chat text are replaced before the AI reads it. Free preview, then from $6.99 / £4.99.

  • Findings quote the messages they rest on
  • Names in the chat replaced before the AI reads it
  • Refunded automatically if a report fails
  • Only for conversations you were part of

AI-assisted analysis of the messages you supply. It is not an expert report and does not determine admissibility, authenticity or evidential weight.

How Chat Forensics reads a chat

Evidence first
Findings quote the messages they rest on, with who sent them and when, so you can check them against the chat.
Both sides, same rules
Every participant is read the same way, including you. Nobody gets the benefit of the doubt for uploading the chat.
Honest limits
Each finding says how sure it is and what the messages can't show. No lie detection, no diagnoses, no scores.

Analyse more than messages

This is more than a keyword search. The AI reads the chat text, transcribes the voice notes you attach and describes the images, then explains what it found and quotes the messages it based that on.

Text analysis
Sentiment, key topics, tone and conversation dynamics, participant by participant.
Voice note transcription
Attached voice notes are transcribed, with unclear words marked [inaudible] rather than guessed, then summarised and folded into the report.
Image and video analysis
Attached images and videos are described by the AI, including what is shown and any text in them. Videos are described with timestamps.
Quotes behind its findings
The report quotes the short excerpts from the chat that its findings are based on, so you can check them yourself.
Relationship insights
Communication patterns, response times and how the balance between participants shifts.
Risk flags
Language consistent with threats, bullying, coercion or manipulation is flagged, with its uncertainty stated.

Everything you need to know

Is my conversation private?
Names, phone numbers, email addresses and links are replaced with labels before the AI reads the chat text. Uploads are encrypted and never used to train AI models. A voice note or image cannot be anonymised, so the file itself is sent to the AI provider as it is.
How long do you keep my upload?
While your upload is being received it is briefly written to our server; it is then encrypted and the readable copy deleted, normally within seconds. The encrypted upload and any media attached to it are deleted about an hour after your paid report finishes. Uploads that nobody buys a report for are deleted after seven days. If a paid report fails and we refund it automatically, the upload is deleted about an hour after the refund, unless you order another report on it before then, in which case the rules above apply to the new order. A ZIP you upload is held encrypted while you choose what to analyse: everything in it you don't choose is deleted, and so is the whole file if you leave it for 30 minutes. The report itself stays in your account in its anonymised form.
Can the other person see that I've analysed the chat?
No. You export the chat yourself and we never connect to your messaging account, so nobody in the conversation is notified.
What platforms can I upload?
Chat exports from WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, Telegram and Android SMS. WhatsApp: the .txt export or the ZIP file WhatsApp makes. Messenger and Instagram: the JSON download from Accounts Centre, as a ZIP. Telegram: Telegram Desktop's JSON export of the chat, as result.json or the export folder as a ZIP; a whole-account export works if its result.json is under 64 MB. Android SMS: an SMS Backup & Restore .xml file. When a download holds more than one conversation, you pick one and the rest is deleted. Voice notes and images are analysed with a chat, not uploaded on their own. Snapchat is not supported yet: its download holds saved chats only.
What does a report cost, and why does the price change?
You pay once per chat, for the package that covers its messages and media. Basic is $6.99 / £4.99: a relationship report on a chat of up to 500 messages, text only. Essential is $14.99 / £14.99: one report of your choice on a chat of up to 2,500 messages, including up to 3 media files and 2 minutes of audio or video, and 2 Ask AI questions. Extended is $29.99 / £29.99: one report of your choice on a chat of up to 5,000 messages, including up to 8 media files and 8 minutes of audio or video, and 4 Ask AI questions. Complete is $44.99 / £44.99: one report of your choice on a chat of up to 8,300 messages, including up to 15 media files and 15 minutes of audio or video, and 8 Ask AI questions. Voice notes, video and photos over a package's media allowance are added per unit. Large chat: over 8,300 messages, up to 25,000, is $86.99 / £69.99, plus any voice notes, video and photos per unit. The server measures your own upload and shows you an itemised quote before you pay, and the price never goes up afterwards.
Can I see anything before paying?
Yes. Every upload starts with a free preview, so you can decide whether the full report is useful before you pay.
How accurate is the analysis?
Each finding quotes the messages it is based on and carries a confidence level, so you can check it against the chat yourself. The AI can misread sarcasm or context that is not in the messages.
Can Chat Forensics tell whether someone is lying?
No. It shows where later messages contradict what the chat records, with both messages quoted and dated. It does not decide who is telling the truth.
Can I use the report in court?
The report is not expert evidence. It is a structured summary with message references you can check against the original chat. Ask a legal adviser how to use it in your case.
How long does analysis take?
The analysis runs in the background and the finished report waits in your dashboard, with a PDF export.
How long do you keep my reports?
Generated reports stay in your account until you delete them. Each report keeps the short quotations it cites.
What can Ask AI see?
Ask AI, the follow-up questions on your report, answers from the report and its retained quotations only. It never reads the original chat, so it works the same after your upload is deleted.
What happens if the analysis fails?
You get an automatic refund if a report fails.
How do I export a WhatsApp chat on an iPhone?
Open the individual or group chat, tap the contact or group name at the top of the screen, then tap Export chat. If the chat contains media, choose Attach Media or Without Media, then choose Save to Files. WhatsApp exports an iPhone chat as a ZIP file: upload the ZIP from the Files app as it is. There is no need to unzip it.
How do I export a WhatsApp chat on Android?
Open the individual or group chat, tap More options (the three dots at the top right), then More, then Export chat. Choose Without media or Include media and send the file to yourself. Android gives you a .txt file, or a ZIP file when you include media. Upload whichever you have, without unzipping it.
Do I need permission to analyse someone else's messages?
You are responsible for having the right to analyse what you upload. Before the upload starts you confirm that you were part of the conversation, you're 18 or over, and everyone in it is an adult. The rules on recording and sharing private conversations differ from country to country, so take advice first if you are unsure.
Can I use a report as legal or medical evidence?
No. Reports are AI-generated interpretations of a conversation. They can be incomplete or wrong, and they are not expert reports or medical or psychological diagnoses. They do not determine whether a report or source material is admissible or authentic, or what evidential weight it should receive. Take anything serious to a qualified professional.
Is this a gaslighting detector?
No. It does not decide whether anyone is gaslighting and it does not label people. The denial and contradiction report points out where one person's account of events differs from what the chat itself recorded, with both messages quoted, and leaves the judgement to you.
